Settled Lower Than Expected? You May Be Owed More.
Under-settlement is the most common silent loss. Audit it. Recover it.
Most policyholders accept the first cheque the insurer offers. That is a mistake. Insurers routinely deduct items as 'consumables', 'non-payable expenses', or 'non-medical expenses' even where the policy clearly covers them.
Step one is to demand an itemised deduction sheet. Insurers must provide it in writing. The vague 'deducted as per policy' line is not enough.
Step two is to cross-check each deduction against your policy. Look for the exact clause that justifies the cut. If you cannot find one, the cut is recoverable.
Step three is to send a partial-settlement grievance citing each unjustified deduction. The insurer must acknowledge it immediately and resolve it within 14 days. If they do not, escalate to the Ombudsman.
BimaHaq is built for this. Our Claim Strategy Note (₹999) audits the deduction sheet clause by clause, and our Bima Bharosa Filing service (₹999) prepares and files the IRDAI grievance with you, step by step.
